Just Another Phenomenal Sunset...

I'm not sure of exactly why we get these phenomenal sunsets, but we had another one last night. I've set up a webcam that looks out over the cove--it is in early development, so it may not always be up. Let me know what you think--leave me a comment.

  • I don't know why i find web cams so interesting but I just love them. I watched the guy with the plow, plowing the parking lot on your web cam the other day. So funny.

Can't wait to see a sunset!!!

  • Looks good, other than the bottom half of picture keeps redrawing steadily for me. What sort of a setup are you using? I do networking and was curious what sort of router/camera/DNS setup worked for you.
That was a beautiful sunset shot in your last post. I have an old "Widelux F7" panoramic camera that I am currently trying to repair on my kitchen table. It was always great for landscape shots like that.

  • Hi Mike, and thanks for the comment.

I think the JavaScript that runs the update is a little funky. I didn't write it, so I'm not sure what's up with it.

I noticed at about 11:30 that the camera shifted--I think the cleaning folks bumped the tripod.

The setup is a Sharp camcorder with a Firewire link to a Mac PowerBook. The Power book links to the router via WiFi and runs KeyCamX ($10 shareware). Basically it takes a frame a whatever rate you give it (in this case every 30 seconds) and uploads it via FTP to my site (fatcow.com hosts my site). It stores the previous frames for the number you set (in this case 720, which should give me 6 hours of stored images). It is all pretty simple.

The panoramic view of the sunset was done with two shots from my Olympus point-and-shoot and stitched together manually in Photoshop. It always takes me too long to stitch them together, but it is the only way I have to do it (with what I have now).
